Good Software
From Good Companies
Here's some good software written by good companies. These companies have inspired me to start my own company. They truly value their customers and take great pride in the software they create. They're not just in it for the money.
| Fog Creek Software |
Makers of FogBugz, bug management software, and CityDesk, which is desktop content management software for the rest of us. Powerful and easy to use. I use it for this site and infiniteNIL.
|
| The Omni Group |
These guys create great Mac OS X native cocoa apps like OmniWeb, OmniGraffle, and OmniOutliner. They also publish their own Cocoa frameworks that they use in their own applications. A great development resource.
|
| Stone Design |
Lots of native Cocoa Mac OS X apps that have been around longer the OS X itself! From Andrew Stone, a Cocoa guru.
|
| Six Degrees |
Software that thinks different. Helps organize all your communications so you don't have to. This is the kind of software that infiniteNIL will aim to produce. |
For Development
Here's some good software for development. I'm amazed at the quality of open source software these days. Especially development tools. Hence, most of these are open source.
| IntelliJ IDEA |
The best IDE on the planet. It's fast and especially strong in refactoring abilities. Does lots of little things like automatically adding import statements that just make it a joy to use.
|
| The Jakarta Project |
Lots of great tools here, like Tomcat, a Java servlet engine, and Ant, a build tool, plus many more. Need a tool or library for your project. Come here first.
|
| JUnit |
The original unit testing tool, available for just about any language.
|
| JBoss App Server |
A fully featured J2EE compliant app server that's better than the commercial ones. Why spend $30,000 or even $4000 for something that just doesn't work or is hard to work with, when you can get JBoss for free?
|
| Orion App Server |
Another great app server that is incredibly easy to work with and works great. Free for development use. |
